About the Woodmans Arms
Trevor, Cheryl & the rest of the team at The Woodmans Arms look forward to seeing you soon
JUST ON the edge of Wootton, the Woodmans Arms has the best of both worlds – a loyal band of locals from the surrounding area as well as those who travel from all over the Island to visit. But as it is also on one of the tourist routes the pub picks up quite a lot of holiday trade too.
Trevor and Cheryl Suckling took over the pub in November 2012. After a year of planning and organising they finally made the move from Lincolnshire to the Isle of Wight, along with their 4 year old son, Daniel. Although this is their 1st pub Trevor had run his own business, manufacturing and selling traditional box sashes, for over 5 years and before they started a family Cheryl was an events manager for a hotel in Lincoln City Centre. Both have also had experience with bar management and customer service.
Although family and close friends have been left behind, Cheryl's sister and brother-in-law live in Carisbrooke and are one of the main reasons for the big move. They also own the Italian restaurant, Valentino's and have given Trevor and Cheryl a lot of help and support, including looking around different pubs that were on the market for them.
Some changes were seen in 2014, including a children's play area being built and a complete decoration to the interior including new curtains in the bar, and of course the arrival of daughter, Olivia, who is quite often seem having cuddles with some local ladies that come in to lunch.
One of the first moves was to change the menu. Working with their Head Chef, Michelle Stoppard, and their Assistant Head Chef, Adrian Searl, (who between them have almost 50 years experience) the menu has been reduced slightly so that customers do not feel too overwhelmed. New light bites include baguettes with hot fillings and paninis have already proven to be popular. The daily specials board is still available and has dishes such as beef stroganoff, chicken breast stuffed with brie & asparagus and butterfly pork steak with bacon & leek sauce.
Children's menu available at £4.50. Our senior citizens menu is available Monday - Friday, 12 noon - 3pm, pick one of the selected mains on offer and have a tea or coffee for just £5.50. Steak night is every Wednesday 6pm-9pm, for £6.50 choose from a 6oz rump steak or 8oz gammon complete with grilled tomato, mushrooms, onion rings, peas and chips – booking is advisable.
Real Ales are on offer with London Pride and Sharps Doombar on tap.
